Journey Church officially launched in September 2005. In December of 2004, Jimmy Carroll, a native of the Raleigh area, was led to start a church in North Raleigh. In January of 2005 Jimmy, his wife Beverly, their son Austin, and 10 other families created a team of people that started the planning for the official church launch. This planning season lasted through September of 2005 where the group met in several different places: from living rooms, to a bowling alley party room, to a hotel conference room, to a borrowed space from another church. They spent these months developing a leadership team, developing strategies, and planning for the September launch date.
On September 18, 2005, Journey Church opened the doors for its first service at Millbrook Elementary School. Over 250 people showed up on that first Sunday and new people have been visiting Journey for the first time every week since that opening Sunday. The needs of those attending Journey quickly outgrew the elementary school space and in June 2007, the church relocated into an up-fitted warehouse on the corner of Departure Drive and Oak Forest in North Raleigh. Growth continued and Journey eventually started a satellite campus in the Raleigh Grande Theaters to continue its mission to impact the city. In August 2010, Journey moved both it’s main campus and satellite campus into it’s current facility at 3500 Spring Forest Road to prepare for it’s next phase of growth, which would include church planting throughout the city. As Journey has grown in number, has expanded their current facilities, and has planted churches locally, nationally, and internationally, its desire remains unchanged. Journey exists to make Jesus famous in the city of Raleigh, the nation, and the world by helping people be disciples who make disciples.
