Thank you for taking the time to make an informed decision about how to help those affected by Florence. Continue to visit this page as we update you on additional action steps you can take and new partnerships we create through this process.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, the Apostle Paul encourages us to pray without ceasing, which means simply to ‘punctuate our moments with intervals of recurring prayer.’ As you watch the effects of Hurricane Florence and hear the stories of people who are suffering loss, allow it to prompt you to pray. For example:
- When you see rescue attempts, pray for first responders who are risking their lives for the sake of others.
- When you see news reporters in shelters allow that to prompt you to pray for all those people who have been displaced.
Many of you are in a position to get involved with the relief efforts. Journey is a part of the Liberty Church Network and one of the churches in our network, Catalyst Church, was hit hard by the storm. We want to link arms with them to help as much as we can. If you would like to get involved by doing something, please contact Lisa Bauer at , and she will be able to give you more details on how exactly to get involved.
It is natural to want to do something when you see the devastation of a hurricane like Florence. We want to go buy water, load trucks and bring the supplies to the impacted areas as fast as possible. However, sometimes giving your resources to organizations equipped to respond quickly to disasters is the best way to make things happen. Journey partners with one such organization, Gleaning for The World. They are a global humanitarian organization that addresses the critical needs of people suffering during natural disasters. Simply go to gftw.org and you will be guided through a step-by-step process on how to donate. Thanks in advance for your contribution.
