Week 2 – Vision
This week’s exercise is what is referred to as the ‘funeral exercise.’ It was taken from Stephen Covey’s book, ‘Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’ and its purpose is to help you script or rescript the vision for your life by visualizing the end of your life. It’s living the rest of your life with the end in mind.
Visualize yourself attending your own funeral. You sit in the back of the room and begin to listen to what people are saying about you. Four people are going to speak. One is a family member, one is a close friend, one is someone from work, and one is someone from church or community organization where you serve. What character would you like them to have seen in you? What contributions, what achievements would you want them to remember? Look carefully at the people around you. What difference would you like to have made in their lives? Take some time to write out what you would like to hear each of the four say about you.
